llms.txt

llms.txt is a plain Markdown file at the root of a website (yoursite.com/llms.txt) that summarises what the site is about and lists its most important pages for AI assistants and the tools that feed them.

Why it matters

Web pages are full of navigation, scripts and layout. A model reading them has to guess what matters. llms.txt is a proposed convention (see llmstxt.org) for giving it the short version: a title, a one-paragraph summary, key facts, and sections of links with one-line descriptions.

It's cheap to add and low risk. It won't make an assistant name you on its own, but it makes your facts (what you do, what it costs, who it's for) easy to find and quote, which supports GEO.

A good llms.txt has:

  • one line that says what the product is,
  • the facts people ask about: price, plans, who it's for, where it works,
  • links to your pricing, comparisons, guides and docs, each with a one-line description.

How Cosmo handles it

Cosmo writes your llms.txt during onboarding from your site and brand kit, and keeps it current when your pricing or pages change. On WordPress, Webflow, Shopify, Ghost, Wix, GitHub or Framer sites he can publish it after your yes. Cosmo's own is at /llms.txt.

FAQ

llms.txt, answered

Is llms.txt an official standard?

It's a proposed convention, not a formal web standard. Some AI tools read it; others don't yet. It costs little to add.

Does llms.txt replace robots.txt or a sitemap?

No. robots.txt controls crawling and the sitemap lists URLs. llms.txt is a human-readable summary for AI tools. Keep all three.
